A welcome from Dr. John M. Graham:

Hip replacement surgery is one of the most successful surgeries available today in medicine.  It has been around for many decades in one form or another and continues to evolve.  That evolution has led to what I believe is the most exciting new technology to come along in quite some time: the Medacta / AMIS®  Anterior Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement Surgery.

There are many ways to perform a hip replacement surgery.  Only one, the direct anterior approach, allows a surgeon to enter the hip without cutting any muscles and respecting all the muscles nerve supplies.  The anterior approach to the hip has been around for many years an has been quite popular in Europe for some time now.

Here in the United States, it has been slow to catch on.  This was due to several factors, including the unfamiliarity of this approach and the learning curve needed to master it as well as, in most cases, needing a special table that was just for this technique and was too expensive for most hospitals to acquire.

Medacta, an international orthopedic implant supplier, has solved all these issues.  Through their hard work, the Medacta / AMIS® technique was developed and is now available here!

Take a look at the video below to see one of our patients after a recent AMIS® Hip Replacement Surgery.
